Library Programs

Library Community Fair for Literacy: We've Met Our Goal!
The library was able to raise over $5,600.00 to support the literacy program! Through the generous contributions of Navigant Credit Union and a special legislative grant proposed by Representative Agostinho Silva, we were able to meet and even exceed our $2,500.00 goal for this year which will keep our classes running through December. Thank you to the City Council and Mayor Moreau for their encouragement and assistance; to the brave souls who sat in the dunk tank; to the library staff who donated all their time and hard work; and to the Central Falls community who helped make this event a success.

ESOL classes will begin again in September. Please contact Brady at the library (727-7440) if you have any questions about the program or would like to make a donation or volunteer your time.

Central Falls Library Literacy Program -- Updates!
The Library is proud to announce that its adult education program is now fully up and running, following the Office of Library and Information Services' award of a $20,000 LSTA grant to fund it. The program is currently offering two classes for adults, beginning and advanced ESOL, with 42 learners currently enrolled. The sections meet for three hour sessions on Saturdays, with one hour workshops scheduled for weekdays according to students' availability.

Instructor Julian Knight, and Coordinator Brady Dunklee are tailoring the curriculum to meet students' interests and needs, and we are coordinating with other library programs and other agencies in the area to provide educational and service opportunities. There was so much interest in the program that we had to put 54 people on a waitlist that continues to grow. We hope to expand the program in the near future so that the library can offer free education to more and more members of our community.

In the meantime, the Literacy Program will soon launch a volunteer initiative, welcoming native English speakers and others to participate in educational projects here. If you are interested in volunteering, or have any questions about the program, please email Brady Dunklee.

And please be sure to check out this blog which showcases the work of the students and reflects matters of importance to them and their communities.

Reading Buddies
The library is happy to be the host of the Central Falls Family Self-Sufficiency Foundation's Reading Buddies Program. This is an after school homework help session that runs from Monday through Thursday at the library and provides assistance to elementary school children who need to build their reading skills. For more information on this, contact the library at 727-7440.

Children's Programs
Our Children's Librarian is always busy with storytimes and craft programs throughout the year. Give us a call at the library to find out more and sign up!

Project LEARN
Project LEARN is an adult literacy program dedicated to providing adult learners with the skills needed to function in today's workplace and society. Through these programs, adults are empowered to realize their full potential as parents, family members, citizens, productive employees, and lifelong learners.
