Adams Memorial Library

 "Welcome to Your Library"

Can you imagine a community without a public library? Neither can the Friends of Adams Memorial Library of Central Falls. But dollar by dollar and voice by voice Central Falls has the opportunity to make national headlines again – this time about how a community banded together to keep the doors of the library open. But the library is counting on donations to make this simple dream a reality for the citizens of Central Falls.

The Adams Memorial Library opened its doors in 1910 and serves as a key component to the education of children and a free resource for all people in the community. The Library exhibits paintings by Lorenzo deNevers, a Central Falls resident who painted two presidents while they were in office, in addition to an autographed painting of Red Sox legend Ted Williams. The Children's Room was once used as a meeting place of the Sullivan Ballou Post No. 3, Grand Army of the Republic, made famous in Ken Burns PBS special on the Civil War.

We are pleased to announce the “SAVE THE LIBRARY” Autumn Gala” on Friday, September 30, 2011. Doors open at 6:30 pm. The public is warmly invited to experience the vibrant and historical library at its finest. Join us for a memorable night of food, drink, art, and entertainment with Celtic music from the Broad Street Ceilli Band featuring members of Pendragon; entertainment by crooner Steven Palumbo; and special appearances by Big Nazo and the frozen mimes of Ten 31 Productions. Guests can also look forward to catering by Tom’s Market and an open bar from Bartending by Dennis. One of the key events of the night will feature an “Inside the Studio” silent art auction that invites participants to bid on two-hour blocks of creative and reflective time with noted local artists, including luminaries such as Irene Lawrence, Jerry Ehrlich, Lloyd Martin, Bert Crenca, Scott Lapham and Brooke Hammerle. Proceeds from the event will go toward expanding library hours, hiring a Library Director and bringing vital programming such as literacy programs to the community.

Proceeds from this event will help us to keep the Adams Memorial Library open and allow it to continue as a free community resource for thousands of patrons who use it each year for free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in the diverse Central Falls community. In addition, proceeds will go toward creating and maintaining free literacy programs and classes for children and adults at the library. Ultimately, proceeds from your tax-deductible donation will help the Adams Memorial Library remain a vital part of the Central Falls community.

You can help keep the library open!

I sincerely hope you will decide to participate as an auction donor and to join us on September 30. Attached is a donor form for your convenience.
